With the three-year LIVE project, which has funded the work of the Ecoamgueddfa Llŷn (Ecomuseum), drawing to an end, we’re looking forward to welcoming you all to our stall at the national Eisteddfod in Boduan between 5-12 August.
The Ecoamgueddfa Llŷn stall will be the culmination of three years of work on an innovative project which has seen a significant rise in awareness of the ecomuseum - the first of its kind in Wales. The stand will be an opportunity for people to learn about the collaboration between partners and what has been achieved over the past few years. It will also be a platform for the Llŷn heritage sites that are part of the partnership, who have worked together over the past few years, to promote the area.
The six tourist sites who are part of the ecomuseum partnership are; Porth y Swnt, Nant Gwrtheyrn, Plas Glyn y Weddw Gallery, Plas yn Rhiw, Llŷn Maritime Museum and Felin Uchaf. A full week of activities will open on the first Saturday with a partnership panel discussion on the opportunities and challenges that face the tourism sector in Pen Llŷn.
Dr Einir Young, LIVE Chief Project Officer and Senior Research Fellow at the School of History, Law and Social Sciences at Bangor University said:
“Over the last three years this project has achieved a lot, it has built on the close collaboration that has existed here in different ways for many years. This has included developing standard resources to celebrate the language, culture and the natural wealth of the landscape and its people – encouraging collaboration in our communities to promote the area’s special identity and to raise awareness of what Pen Llŷn has to offer the whole world. Our stall at the Eisteddfod will give everyone a glimpse of the work that has been carried out and will hopefully encourage the ‘what next’ discission…
“We have a full schedule of interesting and engaging activities for the week, including the launch of three books, panel discussion and sessions which will share information about some of our most exciting projects such as the Big 5 Maps and the Llŷn trail vlogs that have been created by BBC presenter Aled Hughes. We’ll be offering something for everyone.”
Arwel Jones, LIVE Project manager added:
“Our stall at the Eisteddfod will be a platform showcasing what Pen Llŷn has to offer those who visit the area through the year. It will also showcase what our staff and partners have achieved over the past three years.
“There will be plenty of fun and creative activities for children and adults of all ages, including an opportunity to build a traditional wooden frame roof with the talented craftsmen from Felin Uchaf and a beautiful mural to paint which has been created by local artist Tess Urbanska.
“Our slogan, yn gartref ac yn gyrchfan translates to Pen Llŷn being a home and a destination, and this is exactly what our stand will offer at the Eisteddfod. Pop in for a cup of tea, a chat and a very warm welcome.”
